My name is Dr. Hal Edghill and several years ago I found myself in the position of taking up the challenge of caring for my father, who was in the midst of a health crisis that eventually won out, as most of them do. At the same time, I began support and care for my elderly aunt who had been the backbone of the family for many years but was now experiencing her own issues.
I took up these challenges, and related issues, without any initial hesitation but there were many subsequent moments of self-doubt that matured me in ways I could have never imagined.
From my experiences I found that I now speak a language that is unique to care-giving for our elders. One cannot describe the experience to someone who has not gone through it but finding someone who understands when you are going through the process is truly priceless.
My hope is that the ideas I share in this blog supports readers taking up their own challenges. There are many of us who are willing to support caregivers new to their lot. If nothing else than to let you know that you are not alone and that you will get through.
You are stronger than you think. Honest.
